This is a mass market product with a wide range of applications for the UK market.

Business users, by dialling a prefix code before telephone and facsimile calls, can have them routed from their standard BT or Cable operator line, to the alternative operator’s (Carrier) switch and onward to its destination anywhere in the world, at significantly lower tariffs. This technique is known as Indirect Access. Savings of up to 40% can be achieved dependent on your tariff. Typically 15-25% is common.

In order to use this service the customers local telephone exchange must be digital, as these exchanges pass to the carrier a CLI (Calling Line Identifier) which is used to confirm that the customer is registered to use the service. This happens virtually instantaneously and requires no action on the part of the user. In excess of 99% of the UK population are now on a digital exchange.

To enhance further resilience and reduce call leakage onto BT, business customers can utilise CPS, which uses a new network access technology that routes calls automatically at the local telephone exchange level rather than at the client’s premises. CPS was introduced in December 2001 as a result of a directive from the European Commission to encourage greater competition within the UK telecommunications industry. In addition to the above benefits CPS is also cost effective as there is no need to purchase further autodiallers and you can keep your existing telephone numbers as the lines are simply programmed automatically at your local BT exchange so there’s no disruption to your service.
